LibriVox recording of How to Speak and Write Correctly, by Joseph Devlin.
Read by Librivox volunteers.
This is a 1910 guide for those who wish to learn how to correctly (though maybe not "properly") create sentences, use figures of speech, write letters, and more, all while choosing the right words and doing it with style. Joseph Devlin's words may not all be relevant still today, but at least it sounds good when it's read aloud! (Summary by Andrew Lebrun).
For further information, including links to online text, reader information, RSS feeds, CD cover or other formats or languages (if available), please go to the LibriVox catalog page for this recording.

Maybe that's the "correct" word for this. Things are so often misdefined as "ironic" these days. Be that as it may - Isn't it ironic in the very first line about "How to Speak...Correctly" the reader pronounces the author's name "Devlin" as "Delvin?"
Yeah. I thought so, too. The fake British (or formal -whichever) accent is a bit overboard as well, especially with a book of this nature (technical rather than dramatic).
However, I'm interested in the subject and I shall endeavor to persevere.

Thanks for the collection. This is what I really needed. Thanks again. Only one thing: Ask the readers to put a little emotion in their way of reading. I feel as if I'm listening to a robot.

Subject: Reader for Chapter 7 *awful*
Subject: Reader for Chapter 7 *awful*
Had I a mellifluous voice, a clarity in tone. I would volunteer for Librivox. There are those who choose to ignore their terrible reading voice but do it anyway.
I could barely understand the instruction for Chapter 7 "Errors" as the reader sounded self conscious, or mumbled, or just is not a good speaker, period. Hearing that speaker practically ruins the entire list!
I noticed a lot of Librivox readers are accepted, but WHY? I just gave up on one very good book- the reader had a very thick Eastern European accent & was a female- for a male American character- she also read off so quickly it was literally unintelligible. This is unacceptable even for FREE books! Shame on you, Librivox. Try to accept only GOOD readers.
